John Bumgarner

John Bumgarner, MA, CISSP, GCIH, IAM, IEM, SSCP and is Research Director for Security Technology, U.S. Cyber Consequences Unit.
John Bumgarner is the Research Director for Security Technology for the U.S. Cyber Consequences Unit, an independent, non-profit research organization that investigates the strategic and economic consequences of possible cyber attacks. He has over 18 years of work experience in information security, intelligence, psychological operations and special operations. Additionally, he has received formal training in diverse areas, including computer forensic techniques and long-range reconnaissance operations.
During his career he has worked for the Central Intelligence Agency, Defense Intelligence Agency, Department of Defense, Department of State, National Security Agency and the United States Special Operations Command. His work for these and other government agencies has taken him to more than 40 countries on 6 continents. His work as an independent consultant in security has resulted in widely discussed demonstrations of major institutional cyber vulnerabilities. He has published articles in leading security journals, such as the journal of the Information System Security Association, and he has been invited to speak at events such as the Information Assurance and Security in Defense conference in Brussels and at institutions such as the Center on Terrorism and Irregular Warfare, Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, California.
John maintains multiple industry certifications in information security. He also holds dual Masters degrees in Information Systems Management and Security Management. He has been a guest lecturer at the Naval Postgraduate School and is a Senior Research Fellow in International Security Studies at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy of Tufts University.
During his distinguished military career he received approximately three dozen decorations and awards, including the Meritorious Service Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Achievement Medal, and the Navy Achievement Medal.
